How it works

Three steps between you and the version of you that follows through.

Accountable is a commitment device: you make failure expensive so success becomes the cheaper option. The whole thing takes two minutes to set up.

STEP 1 — STAKE

Set a goal and put money on it

Define your goal with a measurable outcome and a hard deadline. Choose a stake that would genuinely sting to lose — that's the point. We hold it in escrow until your deadline.

STEP 2 — PURSUE

Do the work, log the proof

Check in along the way with photos, screenshots, data exports, or activity logs. Progress check-ins keep you honest and build your evidence file for verification day.

STEP 3 — VERIFY

Prove it. Get paid back.

On your deadline, your evidence is reviewed — by AI, or by an accountability partner you choose. Verified success means a full refund within 24 hours. Failure means the stake is gone.

Losses loom larger than gains

Built on the strongest force in behavioral science.

Loss aversion: people work roughly twice as hard to avoid losing money as they do to gain the same amount. Willpower fades. Streaks break. But nobody forgets that $500 is on the line. Accountable turns your own loss aversion into your most reliable training partner.

Verification

Honest by design. Verified your way.

A commitment is only as strong as its referee. Choose how your goal gets verified when the deadline hits.

🤖

AI verification

Submit your evidence and our AI reviews it against the metric you committed to — no awkward conversations, no waiting on anyone.

  • Reads photos, screenshots, GPS data, and documents
  • Checks evidence against your exact success metric
  • Flags tampered or inconsistent submissions
  • Decisions in minutes, refunds within 24 hours
🤝

Accountability partner

Nominate someone who knows you — a friend, coach, coworker, or spouse — to confirm whether you actually did the thing.

  • Partner gets your goal, metric, and deadline up front
  • One-tap confirm or deny when time's up
  • Optional progress updates so they can cheer you on
  • Partners can't be swapped mid-goal. Choose wisely.
FAQ

Fair questions.

What happens to my money if I fail?

It's forfeited and kept by Accountable. That's not a bug — it's the entire mechanism. If failure cost nothing, the stake wouldn't change your behavior. Knowing the money is truly gone is what gets you off the couch on day 23.

What kinds of goals can I stake?

Anything with a measurable, verifiable outcome and a deadline: run a race time, lose or gain weight, ship a project, publish weekly, pass an exam, quit a habit. If you can define the proof, you can stake the goal. Vague goals ("be healthier") get rejected at setup — we'll help you sharpen them.

Can I cancel a goal and get my money back?

You get a 24-hour cooling-off window after staking. After that, the contract is locked. No early exits, no extensions, no "life got busy" clause — that's what makes it work.

What stops me from cheating?

AI verification cross-checks evidence for tampering, timestamps, and consistency with your check-in history. Partner verification puts your reputation with someone you respect on the line, which is its own kind of stake. And ultimately: the only person you'd be cheating is you.

Is my staked money safe while it's held?

Stakes are held in a segregated escrow account, separate from operating funds, until your deadline resolves. Verified success triggers an automatic refund to your original payment method within 24 hours.

The deadline is real. So is the refund.

Stake your first goal in under two minutes. Future-you will either thank you or owe you — and either way, you'll know which one you are.
